AC and Pwr Steering (1991 2+2)
Hi all,
AC is cutting off and on in my 91 Z. On occasion, when the air is blowing warm, the temp gauge will rise (usually when moving slow). (could this be the vacuum lines?? Or maybe the thermostat??) Any ideas -- it's hot here in Jacksonville.
Also, power steering goes off and on. Recently had the power steering lines replaced.
Both problems were brought to a Nissan out of state... anyway both are still a problem. Anyone know a good Z service in Jacksonville FL? Please let me know.
Sorry if these are old problems -- I'm new.
Many Thanks!

As far as the pwr steering goes, sounds like you either have air in the lines or a leak. Who changed the lines? Did they put pwr steering fluid or did they use ATF like they're supposed to? The steering rack might also need to be regreased.
Now the a/c...compressor o-rings might have to be changed. They could be leaking. The compressor's electrical connections should be checked for corrosion and proper fit. On a cool day, place the controls on defrost and crank up the heat. Does it get really hot like it's supposed to? Or does it just blow ambient temp air? If it gets really hot then your compressor is working and it could just be something electrical. When the compressor turns on and off you should be able to feel it in the cars rpms.
The temp guage rising is in response to you running the air. This could be a sign of things to come however. Check this thread out. It's long and involved but most importantly it's informative. Enjoy.
