Smog/Rubbing alcohol in gas tank.
Smog/Rubbing alcohol in gas tank.
Herow,
I have a 1991 300zx 2plus2 NA. Has anyone tried to put rubbing alcohol in their Z to help it pass smog?? I've been reading and it seems to work but its mainly american cars that people do it on. Any insight to do this trick in a japanese muscle car?
I failed smog about 1 month ago. The previous owner tired to delete the EGR and had the EGR tubes disconnected and i just put them back in without taking the plenum off mainly to pass the visual.

I've never tried the alcohol technique. But, I would suggest you change your oil, install new pcv valves, and install new, proper ngk plugs if you haven't already.
How about taking a peek and the Engine Health..
Do a Compression Check, post the readings..
Do a Cylinder Balance test.. post the Readings.
It's posable you have leaking Valves or leaking Injectors.. and no 'Tricks' will fix that.. just maintenance..
Car seems a little dirty.. has to be a good reason for the bad smog test.. have you checked the Ignition Timing??.
