Rust on the internal water passages of my block after machine work

I got the block back for my rebuild. They hot tanked, bored out, and also removed the casting flashing internally.

I start to put things together, I flip the block over and I see some rust come out. I poke a screwdriver in the holes and flip again and a whole crap load of rust comes out (see pictures)

I take some pictures of through the top water holes in the block and see this (see pictures)

This can't be normal, or is it?

Any help would be appreciated as I am not an expert on what it should look like!

Thanks!

I'm sure the hot tank dip loosened it up. When I clean out coolant passages, I pour in a bottle of LimeAway, tape up the ports, and turn the engine over a few times on the stand. Then hit the ports with high pressure water. Blow dry and hit with WD40.

thanks, I had a knowledgable friend look at it and he said basically the same thing. hit it with compressed air a bunch of times and cleaned out all the loose particles then PB Blast.
