New to Z32's Looking for information, what to buy... etc..

Hey, Z friends. I'm really getting interested and eventually sometime this December or so be able to purchase a 300zx z32 NA MANUAL transmission not automatic. I am new to cars and really trying to get into them and learn/build them. I hope to go to college to learn about cars and be able to take them apart and know what I am doing. So I guess the first question is what will lead me in the right direction into learning about cars? I have been trying and trying to research more about cars everyday. But what is the best route to take into learning about cars itself, more specific the 300zx?

When it comes to purchasing a z32 NA I'd like to know what is the best way to go about buying a 300zx, the best year of the 300zx z32, is it cheaper and better to just buy a shell and buy the engine or buy a cheap 300zx with high miles and just swap the engine out? I would also like to know what is the best engine or in other words best performance with less problems? Been researching different engines such as the VG30's and such and really trying to learn car lingo. I'm even looking for a shop that can do 300zx engine swaps in the CA area ,but thats really the last thing on my mind since I really need to learn about the car before I go and purchase it.
This is a pretty sad question.... since like I said I am new to cars. If say the 300zx is automatic and I want it to be manual would I have to swap the engine and the transmission?? or what exactly?

I know a lot of question but if you guys can just give me links and everything on how to start I guess you can say a hopeful career in cars, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again. And yes I have looked at the stickies just wanted your guys's preference.

Well thats a lot of questions, but my best advice is keep reading blog sites like this one. Also do a few google searches and you can probably find some answers.

As for doing motor swaps and transmission swaps that is something you do not want to tackle if you know nothing about cars. It can be very difficult. However with the Z cars if you want to learn about them try working on it yourself as much as you can. If you use blog sites and internet searches you can learn how to do almost anything.

You can probably find a 300zx n/a that has less than 100,000 miles for pretty cheap if you look around. If you are serious about getting a Z then start looking now and eventually you will find one.

The VG30 motor that is in the 300zx is a pretty strong motor. There are a good deal of performance parts for these engines and you can get a lot of power out of them. The twin turbo motor is pretty strong and you can get close to 400 hp on the stock motor internals. So the 300zx has some serious potential.

If you do buy one here are a few sites that will be very helpful to you.

This is a start. Good luck with your Z if you buy one. Hope this helps
