well today I changed an automatic transmission in a 1990 z32 the used automatic with 90K miles i got from z32 2+2, as i put the auto tranny from 2+2 into a 2 seater everything seems to be working except that it goes forward in NEUTRAL, drive and 2 and 1st but wont got into reverse anywhere even when i try to push it i had no problems replacing the transmission everything seemed to be fine but it wont go in reverse is it my linkage or the used transmission i got might be bad please help

 

Adjust the linkage. If that doesn't fix it then pull and test the solenoids.

ok i tried to adjust the shift linkage but that didn't do crap so i disconnected the shift rod started the engine lifted the rear up got under the car shifted into reverse the wheels spun forward and then stopped help....

 

Check the FSM for linkage adjustment, did you pull the linkage and shift the trans into gear by hand?

 

yes i did i also shift it by hand i also tore the bottom apart tested 3 out of 5 solenoids were bad i replaced them put everything back together put the fluid in started the engine put it in reverse wheels spun forward and grinded to a halt again... i think that reverse pressure clutch plate set thingy is broken to rebuild that transmission is $2100 (basically priceless) this car is pissing me off i am not good with automatics i hate them and every car in my house except this one ether a convert or came with manual i am about ready to rip the automatic off and slap a clutch assembly and manual tranny on it less problems
