Stereo Squeels with factor speakers and A/M Head unit
If I'm asking too many questions let me know:
I went to replace the head unit in the Z last night. It already had an aftermarket stereo in it (had the bose one originally) but it was making a squeel/whine noise from the speakers. I figured it could be a bad ground because the frequency of the squeel would change as you drove along.
I pulled the old one out, and replaced it with one that I had. From what I understood (which was clearly wrong) you can't wire normal stereos directly into the Z's system because all the speakers are individually amplified and the factory speakers are 1/2 ohm (which is far from standard). The headunit that was in there had the remote wire spliced into the antenna and a blue (remote) wire on the harness. That remote wire was labeled AMP TURNON and the no music would play through until that wire was wired to the remote wire out of the headunit. This leads me to believe that despite what I read it does work.
Any Idea what the squeel is?
I've got it grounded to the chassis
The negative terminal wire from the battery is seriously messed up, its on the list for replacment.
Also, The stereo has three wires that deal with power (I'm sure everyone knows this)
Black - Ground
Yellow - Hot/Positive
Red - Ignition
For some reason the red ignition wire on the harness (which turned into a little blue wire after the first connector) is not powering the stereo and it has to be wired to the 12v hot (yellow) wire to make the stereo work (which means we have to shut the stereo off manually everytime we use it.
Any ideas?
Sorry for the long post!
Thanks in advance
Ezra

Sigh stereo whine is just about one of the most annoying things in the world. It could be an improper ground somewhere along the audio, or even just the route your wires are being ran across the car, or a number of things. I can't give you much advise though, I'm not an audio expert.. I've only done one full install and it wasn't in a Z32. Good luck though

i had it in my Z32. had to do with an amp that was in the ground. what i did. properly wired the headunit. re-ran the speaker wires. removed the amplifier currently in it. and that fixed it. however the antenna was broked, so i never had radio anyways very much lol. so i wired my psp to the head unit and had every song i ever wanted that way.

its a commone Z32 thing.... ive been in the industry for 5 years almost doing professional stereo/remote start/anything aftermarket installs. Its very common for them to do that. The bose amps go bad and make a really high pitched annoying, want to hurt somebody sound.... only way to fix it is new speakers, and rewire.... its all good tho, time to go bigger and better :-D

Thanks TT Dan, everyone. Does anyone have any ideas about the ignition wire not recieving 12v when the car is on? Thats one thing that has really been bugging me
check the fuse. when that fuse blows it affects the ignition switched power not the constant.

i also explain at this thread how to wire in an aftermarket radio to the bose wiring and have it work.
moved to 300ZX (Z32) Appearance Exterior, Interior also.

OEM to Bose adapter makes no sense to me. The Bose system is OEM, so to speak. An after market to system harness adapter, or are you talking about running my preamps to the Left and right channels like someone else mentioned?
Oh, I'm sorry about that. What I meant to say was that you need a Bose adapter to go to the factory wiring. With factory bose systems, doing an aftermarket system requires the adapter. That's what I meant, that's what I get for posting during school lol. At least, that's what needs to be done with newer factory Bose systems, like those in an Altima or a G35. Oh, and if you did it all correctly, then you may need a noise filter.

No problem, I knew what you meant mostly. I'm gonnah try rewiring it to the preamps and if that doesnt fix the problem (which I'm pretty sure it won't) I'm going to rewire the whole system over time. I've got some nice 5 1/4s I'm going to put up front for now. Just gottah buy some speaker wire. Anyone want to recommend some?
ummmmm.... flexible fine copper wire that seems to be the same guage as sotck.. maybe a little a little thicker.... just back sure when you cut the wire open its the wire type that seperates not a solid core.. that stuff is a bitch and woont conduct well.. you should get 2 diff colors also or the wire that is like attatched to another wire alrady you know side by side...
