i am in the middle of an engine rebuild and i decided to replace tranny because 2nd and 3rd synchros were gone. i bought a used one online, and when i got it i realized that i could only shift into 1st and 2nd. is this because a clutch isnt hooked up or is there something wrong with the tranny.?

 

Can you post new/old matching tranny model nos - or was there an 'interchangeable' situation? Was the swap a perfect fit? How old is your clutch and was it working OK before the swap? Remember how many miles on the new used one? Thanks.

 

why didn't you get the original rebuilt. you buysomething online you don't know what you are gettting. if you can only shift into 1 and 2 you got a problem. should shift without the clutch. now you have two trannys that need a rebuild

 

A few years ago I got one from a good guy ..an extra one he had. Swore it was good and 95% good...but if you are putting in \ replacing you want to be sure about the unit.
THat is the lesson I learned the hard way.
