Are you removing the catalyst? If not, you need the AIV. It supplies enough fresh air to the catalyst to get a hot burn going on (needed to really cook away those pesky exhaust born pollutants).

There are no performance gains to be had by removing the AIV. Cosmetically speaking, you might make the left inner fender look a little better by removing this clutter, but, your Z won't run any better.

To remove, just take it off. You'll have to plug some vacuum lines and the big hole in the intake tube where the AIV was supplied with fresh air. The hard line can be pinched shut good enough to not leak exhaust.

well it's because certified muffler sent me a turbo back exhaust without the aiv fitting, I didn't know I had a choice, and they said they would replace no prob but I didn't want to go thru hassle of return and I heard you don't really need it and my cat is going bye bye for an off-road pipe so I don't really need it, but I could just cut the hard pipe out of the old exhaust and pinch it closed and it should be good?
