I have an 87 coupe. Well when I got the car, the door handle seemed to stick up after opening for like a second. Then it would fall on it's own. Well starting yesturday, it started staying up (as if someone where holding the door open.) Problem.... As I drive off the door SWINGS open. (Scared the living S**t out of me tonight as I was turning hard right out of the drive way and hadn't put on my seat belt yet. lol

A couple of weeks ago the inside handle broke. I finally got to the junk yard and replaced it. Is this a sign that I'm gonna have to replace my outer door or do I just need to lube or clean it?

Any help will be loved. Thanks a lot in advance.

as the weather gets colder, the old grease tends to not lubricate as well.

Thanks again. It common, but it's my first time.. And I've owned 4 z31s in the past. So caght me off gaurd. Specially when I took off the the door opened. I like to look down at the ground but usually am on prepared for that site while on my bike. haha

 

On my 86 300zx the inside door handle was slightly stiff, and I felt it was going to break at anytime, sure enough last friday it stopped working from the inside.

I pulled the door panel off today and had a look, the little white plastic clip that holds the rod against the door was broken, of course the dealer doesnt have one, but they will order it for me, fortunately it's only $1.28 to get a new one.

But in the meantime I've just used a plastic zip tie to hold it ontop of the broken piece of whats left and it works fine.

In any event, dont just lube the door handle from the outside, but rather pull the door panel and grease up all the moving parts inside. Mine was pretty dry in there where the outside door handle rod connects up with the sliding inside door clip rod.
