My 86 NA is loud while driving, its not unbearable but you have to yell to carry on a conversation. I think the previous owner put a glass pack exhaust on it but i haven't gotten around to checking that yet. I am working on fixing my climate control at the moment and since the interior has been basically gutted i thought now would be a good time to add some sound deadening material. I wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with doing this and what the best route to take is. From goggling it i get a lot of conflicting reports. One of these days i am going to replace the carpet and when i do that ill get the mass backing just for some added help.

There are several good brands I have found, at least in research, no practical applications as of yet, but I do plan on spending about 300$ hopefully to fully line my interior. here are a few links

I was going to buy a molded carpet kit from motorsports, but I managed to clean up a set out of an 86 turbo and it fits pretty nicely in my 81 280zx, trying to save money anywhere I can, when possible.

The carpet kits they have come with a heavy pad, so the combo of something like Dynamat and the carpet kit should cut the noise down.

 

Definitely check the archives here for that. Somebody did a great job with good materials and not too long ago, can't remember the name. The thread was loaded with good photos, too. I was inspired by it! My na is a lot noisier than it was 28 yrs ago...
