Heat shield under the hood

Heat shield under the hood
I'm not really sure if this classifies as performance or appearance but here goes:
The heat shield on the underside of the hood; the one with those huge circular clips in it. How in the heck to you get that thing off and is it going to mess up the paint if you don't have it on? I'm getting my car repainted and replacing the hood. Trying to figure out if I need to either buy a new one or swap it over to the new car. I see a similar post on a google hit of twinturbo.net but we still can't look at it... That site is killing me. Thanks!
