Serious problem!
When I tried to start my 87 NA after a doctor's visit yesterday, I had problems. It would start, but immediately sputter and shake to a stop. Even when I gave it some gas, the engine just died on every start. It finally stayed on after about 15 tries, but even then the idle is uneven and low. I got codes 41(fuel temp sensor) and 22 (fuel pump, but only now and then) when I ran self-diagnosis several times. Fuel pressure coming out of the filter is about 38 psi, so I don't know why I'm getting the fuel pump code. Any ideas? My car is running NASTY (and that's only if I keep playing with the throttle to get it to stay on).

Re: Serious problem!
Thanks for the answer. I've gotten at least one other reply on another site with the same suggestion. Thing is, the couple of times I've managed to keep the engine running, it's driven pretty normally except for an occasional stumble and the unsteady idle. I thought if the MAS was bad, I'd go into limp-mode and not be able to exceed 2000rpm. Any thoughts?

Oh man! You were right. My dad had a spare one laying around. Swapped it out; my car's purring again! It's amazing how that thing can go just like that. Montgomery hey? I'm in the Air Force; we fly down there almost every day from Columbus, MS to train our young pilots. Well, thanks again for the advice. I didn't even suspect it.

Ok, first check for Vaccum leaks. This is exactly what happens when you get a vaccum leak. The car will start, but idle poorly and unevenly, and will generally run bad at all rpm's. Also, sounds dumb, but check the connections on the AFM. If this comes loose the car will still run, but very poorly. A disconnected throttle position sensor will cause the car to run poorly as well.
