Electrical Problems, help needed!

Hey, I have a 86 300zx na. I have two problems that I need to some advice on. One is that the brake lights are always in the on position, even when I shut the car off, the rear lights and 3rd brake light stay illuminated. The 2nd problem and I dont know if its related to the first or not, is that the parking lights are acting the same way, they stay on all the time, even when the car is shut off. I know the lights are turned off, and in the dashboard it says LIGHTS and the bitchin betty keeps screaming my lights are on. Any ideas at all?? All help greatly apprechiated!

I'm not quite sure what the problem is, but the problem COULD lie somewhere in your fuse box. Maybe a fuse is blown or out of place or something. The brake lights and parking lights are independent from each other, but whatever is wrong with your brake lights could be the same problem with the parking lights.

With the brake lights being on all the time I had the same problem in my 280zx. First look by the brake pedal and follow it up and look for a white button or switch. Press it in if it is sticking that is your problem. If it seems to work fine then check the little plastic piece at the top of the break pedal. There should be two of them that hold the break from touching the magnet that tells the lights that the break is on. If the plastic piece is missing you can get a new one or just get a nut and bolt that fits in the hole. That should solve your problem with the break lights. As for the parking lights I'm not sure, but it may be something with the fuses as CarRamrod said.

I just encountered the same problem. I took a penny and some electrical tape. Put the penny over the hole (Top one) and taped the penny to the brake pedal.

I don't know about your other problem.

I think your second problem with the parking lights staying on is that you have a switch that is going bad. I have an 86 as well and some morning my lights don't come on with the first try! So I have to try again. This morning the headlights came on but no dash lights until about 5 min into my morning commute.
