I have a few things to check on the 79 today. When I get on it there is a whistling sound ( I am thinking vacuum leak of some sort). When I let off the gas the rpm's stay at 2,000 for about 5 seconds then slowly come down till it hits about 1,000rpm then drop normal from there. It needs the hatch lift supports and a few other things but nothing major so far. The floors are all there not like my '82. I like the 120mph spedo. The rims are just nasty but what can you do right. It sounds way different than my '82 for the better, sounds beefier and deeper. The Idle is a bit rough but that could be the vac leak and the afm needing to be adjusted. The car has 127,XXX miles on it. I think she has volunteered to be my daily driver for now.

1: find vac leak
2: Adjust AFM same as I did on the '82
3: Check water level as I have a warning light
4: Maybe swap an injector from the '82
5: get some floor matts, I found some good quality matts at Odd Lots believe it or not for $9...good quality cut pile.
6: I need to see if I can fix the shifter...it is sloppy (bushings)

Well I changed my injector, didn't find any vacuum leaks but changed some hoses anyway, swapped out my cone filter and fixed the shifter. Pulls a little better but the car still wants to hang just above 2,000 rpm when in neutral or when the clutch pedal is pushed in. Any suggestions? I am going to clean off the TPS contacts and see if that helps...haven't done the AFM yet.

Why not just swap over your AFM and see if that fixes the problem before you rebuild that one? Do the same with your ECU. If those louvers mount on the back hatch and not under the glass, Ill pass. I dont want to put holes in my newly painted hatch and then not like them. Thanks.

Yeah, it mounts to the back hatch itself.

I didn't think to swap AFM's and the ECU is a 1979 from a manual....hmmm what a coincidence. Can I swap TB's also?

1982 280ZX N/A Auto (Parts Car)
1979 280ZX N/A 5-Speed (Daily Driver)

Boy you didnt waste any time putting the 82 down to parts car.
Yeah, i dont think the 79 ecu would work, probably a lot of stuff on 82, that the 79 ecu would not know that to do with, someone smarter would have to answer that. But i think MAF might work, check the plug setup to see if it matches.

Isn't that the coolest to open up the glove box and find the owner's manual. It's like looking into the past. Congratulations on the purchase of your new Datsun 280zx!
