Most were black, but some were gray/green.

alright, sorry for taking so long to reply to this, kinda killed this thread and i think this thread could be pretty interesting, so i found out, yes, it is a 1983 280zxt ECU, colored green. ok, so the current projects im finishing this weekend would be to put my rear window louver in that i found at a pick a part place, just have to make some brackets for it, and that will be done, also i just started my new sound system project, i totaly gutted out the trim, foam, and carpet to get as much space as possible, and then im gonna try to cut the rear panels to fit the speakers neatly, like they are sunken in the walls...installing 1 12" sony 1800w sub and 2 12" 800w kickers, 2 700watt performance technique amps, 2 6-way 6x9's, and im gonna try to get some 9" mids to fit on the door pannel...i love loud music sorry...and then the last but not least project for the weekend is to sand down my girl, and treat the rust spots, and bondo a couple dings on the right fender, and that should keep me busy for the weekend, how about you guys??

You better add a new alternator to your list. Your stock 60 amp alternator isn't going to last long... Or is it 70 amps in the turbo? Whatever it is, it's not going to last long with the draw you're planning to put on it.

I used to have a big stereo in my ZX and I was replacing the alternator every 6 months. Fortunately, my next door neighbor owned a 'starter and alternator' repair shop, so I got mine replaced for $15. He kept one ready for me whenever I needed it. I would install the "new" one and he'd rebuild the old one and set it on the shelf for me when I needed it.

Unless you have a hook-up, you probably won't be able to get that kind of deal these days.

I would recommend the 120 amp alternator upgrade from "Z Specialties" in Washington.

Actually, it's just a conversion on a stock GM alternator, but yes, finally there's a high amp option that is basically plug and play.

right now im just running 700watts out of the bosch 70 amp, and i havent had any problems whatsoever, but i used to be replacing them every other weekend because i kept on getting rebuilts, i head of this one stereo place that sells solar panel chargers with seperate battery that is small compact but powerfull, kand it has small panels that line the back window, forgot what company though, try to google it. very bright idea...no pun intended.

The rebuilt alternators are all 60 amp, even for the Turbo they're 'compatible'.

Back in the 80's I used to run a 2300w RMS stereo system in my Z and it would put such a load on the alternator when it was cranked up you could feel the car loose power from the parasitic drag on the alternator.

This blew diodes in the alternator pretty regularly requiring the rebuilds.

None of my cars has a stereo with more than 500watts at this point, I just don't hate myself that much anymore...

But, the 105 amp alternator with my 130/100 watt narva bulbs in my Cibie H4 headlights and driving lights makes a good combination.

i was thinking about that this weekend, but i was thinkin of only running 3 subs and 2 6X9s off of just on 700 watt amp, so i installed it rebuilt the box to fit in the back and i got the two speakers on the passenger side facing the drivers side and the one 1200 watt 12" facing the passenger side that i installed on the drivers side and then centered it to the pair, so i am running one 1200 watt sub and 2 800 watt subs and then 2 150 watt 6X9's off of just one 700 watt and and that was enough power to provide to each speaker...and its loud enough now, so the speakers have the capacity of 3100watt, but are only being ran on 700
