Still stuck on this

I just can not figure out what is causing my z to have zero throttle resoponse when i press on the accelerator, and it has such a poor idle. I beleive its a bad tps but dont want to spend the 70 bucks on a new one and that not be the problem. If anyone has any suggestions on what it could be or how to diagnose my problem id greatly appreciate it.

If you think it's the TPS (or any other sensor), unplug it to see if it makes a difference. Use the process of elimination...

What's the timing at? Have you checked the AFM / CHTS and connections? The ecu connections?

My cars in my friends garage right now so ill check the timing and check to ecu and sensors and post the verdict soon, I did previously unplug the tps and there was no difference. So im assuming that the tps is not the culprit.

If you unplugged the TPS, and there was no change. Then it probably is not working at all. Check the contacts, and connections. See if they are dirty, like a green color. Clean them if so, and see if there is a change. Also...where are you getting the TPS, as such a high price? You can get them from Rock Auto for like $30-$40, if I remember correctly. Or possibly less, and they are not junk. Name brands like, Beck Arnley, and others.

Also, check your other sensors, as NismoPick said. These cars are finicky, when things aren't working like they should. Trust me on that one man.

Here you go, this is a direct link to the TPS. $25.79 for a Beck Arnely one. And the most pricey one is $56, and some change. Good luck man.

No problem, glad to help a fellow Z owner save some money. All aside, that is my main parts place, that I use.

I just checked mine and they were green. I have a backup I got from the yard, except it has three wires, and mine has two. The one from the yard was an automatic, mine is 5-speed. Extra wire = ?

The turbo TPS is a 2wire... it's only an idle switch.

The non-turbo is a 3wire as it has a full throttle switch too.

Before you blow your money on a new tps and have it not be the problem (I doubt it is), why not try adjusting the tps first? You can remove the black cover and check the contact points for corrosion. Then you can re-set the tps to the correct contact point... Pics from this thread:
https://www.zdriver.com/forums/280zx-s130-forums-77/240sx-throttle-body-hook-up-29240/

Also, did you check the other things I mentioned?

First, go to your local Radio Shack and pick up a can of electrical contact cleaner and clean all the green tarnish off your connections. You may not even need a new TPS.

You also need to check (and CLEAN) all the other electrical connections mentioned.

These cars are EXTREMELY sensitive to 2 problems. 1. Corroded or tarnished electrical connections and 2. old/cracked vacuum hoses.

Taking care of these two items solves the VAST majority of problems on the 280ZX (and 280Z), but most people aren't patient enough to go through all of them systematically and they end up throwing money out the window for new parts they don't need.

I dunked my entire TPS In Tarnex Tarnish remover for like 4 min works great now! I did the connector as well, just make sure to put WD40 on all metal parts as well, just a light coating not soaked in oil.

Got the case off and found that a tab was broken. If you look at the pic nismo posted the red part of the tps with the two tabs sticking out was the broken part on mine. so im going to try to get that tab back on there and see if it works. And one last question well statement, my tps look a tad different than the one in the pick

Yeah, that TPS in my pic is actually from a KA24DE (240sx). It does the same thing mechanically, but it's newer, and easier to use w/ my 60mm TB.

By chance did you take a pic of your broken TPS?
