Signal lights/ flashers shorted out today, any culprits?

So out of the blue today my left signal light stopped working, as did the left side when the hazards are on. I have read that the hazard switch tends to get dirty and cause issues so I took it apart, cleaned it up, still nothing. I checked my fuses and they were fine (well, the one for the reverse lights was blown which is strange because I don't have them hooked up anyways, regardless I changed it and still nothing). Any ideas what could be causing it? Something's definitely shorting out, all of the lights dim and the voltmeter goes crazy when the flashers are on

Did you check the bulbs? (you didn't mention that in your checks).
Have you checked the voltage w/ a multimeter?

The hazards switch is a common problem. If it's not all the way on or off, it will cause turn signal probs.

I didn't check the bulbs because to me it seems like an obvious short. If the bulbs both randomly blew out at the same time, that wouldn't cause the light on the dash to stop working would it? Also, it dims all other lights and you can hear the change in the sound of the fuel pump as it flashed on and off. I suppose I could check the bulbs but I really doubt it. The positive side though, at least after cleaning the hazard switch I have gauges that light up again

check the connector between the multiuse stick and the car wiring. I found a burnt connector in there. have to pull the steering wheel and the yoke to find it.
