I am now in the market for a short shifter, I've seen a few of those generic Ebay ones, and was wondering if anyone had any idea if:

Hurst Comp Plus Short Shifter (stock **** threads) 1983-1993 Ford Mustang T5 T-5 | eBay

Would work

I want a nicer shifter than:

Datsun Nissan 280ZX Turbo 81-83 Short Shifter Shifters | eBay

Which looks like a cheap poop to me

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I've been searching around for a short shifter also. Apparently the Hurst shifters are pretty good but can make noise and possibly rattle under heavy load. Then again some people say theirs gives no problem at all. Most people say it's nothing that bad and it seems to work well.

It's really up to you. I mean like usual you get what you pay for. Personally I'd get one, a little noise doesn't bother me.

Mustang stuff, google is your friend!

I should add "NismoPick Custom Modified" to that.

Looks very similar to the one I just put in. My friend picked it up from one of his Mustang suppliers. Seems to work well although I did have to shave one side down on the belt sander to get it to fit under the center console trim properly. Nice action. You have to be careful with the T5 short shifters that they don't throw too far as they can damage the transmission if the move the forks too far.

This short shifters are for the T5 transmission. Have you ever seen shifter for a FS5W71B?

Once upon a time in a land far far away..... MSA use to sell a short shift kit IIRC.... but alas they are NLA....

Some guys will weld on new ears or extend and modify for a short shifter that way. Definately not plug and play.

For the N/A's, your best bet is good bushings, trim it down from the top and a good clutch. No shifter is any good with slop

I also shim the slop out of the Nissan tranny with teflon spacers cut from a very thin sheet of teflon. Takes the slop out of the side to side.
