Yes but why would you want the T5? I'm not going to get into the great T5/Nissan debate about which is stronger.... the T5 is a "notchier" transmission and it's extra parts/work to get it to fit. The only advantage I can see is that you can actually get short shifter kits and rebuild parts. It's also set up to run with the 3.56 diff instead of the 3.7 or 3.9 Ths 240SX (S13) is way more common - you need to use your front bell housing and machine out for a different output bearing but you have a lot more trannys available (1989-96)

I have a T5 in great shape in my turbo car and a Nissan tranny in my NA in great shape as well and I prefer the Nissan tranny although the new short shifter is nice...

well if I could keep the nissan 71B I would, but Ive ended up with 2 horrible ones so far and need something I can at least rebuild, If I could find a 71C that I knew was in good condition I would definitely consider it

Everyone says the n/a 5sp FS5W71B is just as strong, or stronger than the 280zx T5, but I had just the opposite results...

When I swapped in my L28ET (back in 2003), I kept the FS5W71B because I didn't have a T5 2+2 driveshaft. Within several months the 2nd gear synchro was toast (and no... I didn't grind, but I did drive it hard all the time). It got so bad that it wouldn't even go into 2nd anymore. At the time I was running 8 to 10psi boost (dyno'd at 220hp / 255ft/lbs torque) to So I swapped in the T5 and got the T5 2seater driveshaft lengthened. No shifting problems since, and I'm now running about 260hp / 300ft/lbs torque. I have a modified Mustang short throw shifter and love the feel...

hmm, sounds like a stalemate then. I should mention that i will be autoxing the thing, other options I suppose would be the 71c or the fs90. I will be granny shifting no matter what tranny I get even when I race, however I do a lot of fancy footwork(double clutching and heel-toe) in normal daily driving. gah decisions decisions

Granny shifting for autocross? Does that help your time?

Check the Mustang forums - I always hear the Mustang guys complain about the T5 not shifting quickly into second but then again the Nissan guys complaining about blown syncros in first to second.

The S13's are plentiful... dunno how the internals differ.... the 300ZX (Z32) is the best Nissan tranny you can drop in although they do need serious mods to bolt in...

Just keep the stock 2seater n/a clutch and flywheel that are on the motor now... unless you feel like hunting down a 2+2 / turbo flywheel and clutch.
