Rubber boot between AFM and TB....

I have a 1980 280zx with the non-turbo L28. It has a rather old and cracked rubber boot between the AFM and TB. I got a replacement boot from the z store. The new boot has one small port coming out of it which I believe a hose goes to the air regulator. On the original boot, another port was rigged (with silicone and metal tube) that led to a hose which connected to the PCV valve on the valve cover. My service manual doesn't have anything specific about this boot and hose/hoses connecting off of it. Does anyone know anything about this rubber boot and the hose/hoses that come off of it. Where does the air regulator get its air feed, and where does the PCV hose connect to? A detailed picture of the engine compartment of a 1980 280zx would be helpful, but I can't seem to find one.

thanks
dp

Here is a picture of my '83 engine, it should be basically the same as yours. Let me know if it helps.

Thumbs up Rubber boot between AFM and TB....

Thanks, your picture helped a lot. Now it seems, I might have a 83 motor in my 80 280zx, and the proper rubber boot for that year is no longer available from motorsports. I guess I'll have to modify the new one I have for the 1980 model.

All of the vacuum system is different in 1980 cars depending on wether it is a California car or a Federal car (smog wise). Which car is yours? Mine is an '80 Federal car... so I might be able to help you if yours is as well. If you aren't sure... the easy way to tell is to see if you have a second air hose running from the air cleaner box back to a small box next to the AFM. That is the "air induction valve" and is only on 1980 Federal model 280zx's.
