R200 Removal?

Hey guys, is there a way to remove the Turbo R200 differential and the axles out of the car without taking the wheels off?

Do the axles just unbolt from the back of the wheels or something??? Oh and no, I haven't found.....what I'm looking for. Rather no I haven't found the key. My uncle and I have totally and completely cleared off the porch and still no lug key.

I take it you've never actually put the Z on jack stands and looked at the differential / cv's....

I have been looking at the factory manual but no, I have never really paid attention to them....I just want to take the diff and axles out as a whole along with the drive shaft then the tranny....am I going to run into any problems...the manual is confusing me.

Hop on under the car and take a look...

Unbolt the cv's from the hub, pop the other end of the cv's out of the diff, unbolt and remove the diff.

Last question...the book says to use an appropriate pry devise to pop them free from the diff...yada yada yada something about C clips holding them in...the question, just pry and they will pop out? It wont brake anything?

i dont remember any C clips, but, its really not rocket science. while its out (this is what me and my dad did) cleaned up teh diff and axles, polished the diff cover painted the rest of teh diff high gloss black. makes stuff look purdy. clean teh tranny whil its out to. as long as you have a goood socket set a braker bar. you'll have no problems. and muscle and jack/jack stands. dont just use a jack. that diff needs some motivation to come out. and to go back up, you'll probly need a partner to

Actually I have muscles...big ones and a third leg....

I have jack stands so I am good there and a old useless torque wrench so I can use that as a breaker bar. This stuff is not going back in the turbo...these parts are all for sell.

If they aren't stuck in there like the one I got you can take a 2 foot or so crow bar and give it a pop. they jump right out. But sometimes the split ring that holds them in place gets mangled.

yep see that nissan manual you got there... now through it out! they are making it sound like you need to take it back to nissan so they could rip you off. i have allready replaced the diff once and am now in the process of puting a 4.1 ratio r200 in out of a gtr. so i am telling you now its easy go for gold and do it your self!

Problems!!

Ok I got one axle free from the hub relatively easy. I cant get it to pop out of the differential. Is this the correct place to pry it to pop it out?

"text emotion is set to sarcastic" Gee, I wish I would have thought to do a web search. Screw It, those bastards are coming out one way or another...everyone keeps saying it is so easy to pop them out which is bullshit or I would have mine out.

"Emotion is back to normal" I think this is a little more involved than everyone keeps telling me...Rose said she just pulled on hers...hmmm she must be wonderwoman.

dude, we didnt "pop" ours out untill the diff is coming down.... well i think anyways... well we had them off the stub axles first then started to lower it and removed the rest then. they pull themselves out then. drop the swing arms like i said its only liek 8 bolts total easy access. well, on the S30 it is but id imagine it aint much different. unbolt them from the stub axles and start jiggling crap around like the suspension. lower the car even and jack it back up. they might just pop out from the movement. get resourceful use your imagination. lol

EDIT: oooo touchey nismo, i didnt know that, i thought they switched to CV's for all the s130''s. kinda got that impression i guess from my ZX which is a 82 though. whats up with CV's anyways, supposedly they are stronger, but what does a CV do any ways differently. stands for constant velocity right? what does that mean, i dont see the big deal!!! i could probably google that but im sure nismo you already have and memorized it so im asking.

uh... nope. Disconnect / unbolt the hub side of the CV's... use a crow bar to pop out the diff side. IT'S REALLY NOT HARD.

Since you're parting the car out anyways... If you're having that much trouble getting them out, why not just cut the exhaust out of the way and drop the diff with the axles still connected? I have swapped the diff. and axles in my '82 and my '79 without removing the axles (or the exhaust), but the exhaust did make it a little more difficult.
