I have sold the axles so I really need to get them out un-damaged.

I removed part of the exhaust on the '79 N/A...the axles I am removing are on my '82 Turbo which still has the full exhaust on it.

This blows monkey ***.

I used a pry bar and also a crow bar...the kind with the lug nut remover end and the other end that is flat...I bent that. The pic on the first page shows where I am prying...the second pic with the red arrow.

Are you trying to remove the stub axle's or the axle from the diff? That red arrow is pointing at the stub axle flange. There's a circlip on there that holds the axle in the diff, but it really is just like popping it out.

Once you've unbolted the axle from the stub axle and moved it out of the way like you have in your photo, you should be able to just twist and pull the axle out of the differential. I can't help but think you're binding the axle against something when you're trying to pry it out with 500lbs of force... Where's your Haynes manual? If I weren't in Geneva, I'd scan the pictures and post 'em...

It is hard to say...I have the *** end of the car fully in the air...when I spin the axle the other tire spins the other way....I am trying to remove the axle completely...I have unbolted it from the hub...the 6 bolts that hold it to the brake/wheel assembly and now I am trying to figure out how this thing is supposed to pop out of the differential...there is a small gap between the axle and the diff and that is where I am prying. Is this right or not?

I think there is too much terminology here...the axle - the thing between the hub and the differential. That is what I am calling the axle. Ya follow?

yes we know.... your a sissy. im not flying down there any more now.

do you have a rubber mallet? you can try hittin the flange with that to see if itll pop out, your haveing trouble getting the axle out of the diff right? not getting the axle off the stub axle (as you call it the hub)

The Hub (where the 6 bolts are)

Yes, I am just trying to get the axle out of the diff.

i vote drop the diff if you cant pry it out, it shouldnt be this hard. rubber mallet it, or if you dont have one get a sturdy 2X4 put it on a surface of the axle and use a small sledge on the other side... think damn you THINK!

I don't see how hitting the side of the axle will pop it out. We will see what I can do in the morning.

not the side.... out wards OUTWARDS from the diff. like hittin the flange/where the flange mounts on the other side. not the side of the axle. yeesh

That is physically impossible...to hit it outward from the diff side would mean I would have to remove the guts of the diff and hit it from inside the diff.

Maybe all those wicked burnouts created so much heat that the cv's are welded to the diff.

Ha Ha Nismo....Well I bought a long ball-joint tool...no good...so now I have had to buy a huge heavy 36" crowbar...I bet that don't work either. This is a major pain in the ***.

wtf is a flange? the big circular metal pancake type doo dad on the end of your axle that has holes in it for bolts to go through and mount to a similare surface. aka the stub axle, or the other side of the flange that has a spindle on the opposite end of the flange that the rotors sit on to turn the wheels. your such a n00b for saying that.
