I used to hate seeing v8's in zcars, as i was always a fan of the RB and turbo swaps, but one day i kinda woke up and realized, why do i want to spend $6k and 5 years building a motor and hoping to get 300WHP when i can spend $1500 and achieve around 350WHP, have a better center of gravity, have the engine behind the cross member and not gain any weight and not have to deal with doing some custom *** EFI and ignition. in the end where all going after the same goal when it comes to the motor, sure i might be bringing a gun to a knife fight, but knowing that i will have spent less then half the time and money to get here and have a huge advantage over my enemies is what makes it special. (but i do agree about every dog and its owner having a mustang or camaro) anyway take this statement for what you will as we all have our different point of views and no two people see the same thing.

I agree, We all have our own way of doing things. As for me, Im not a fan of motor swaps at all. I feel that if a Z car came with a L series motor that's what should stay in it. Thats just me tho. I know that you can go very fast with a V8 under the hood but I love the sound of that Inline six at a high RPM.

until the bottom end shoots a rod bearing cap out the side of the block 50 miles from civilization, that was not a good day.

I'd go a bit further and say it's not a Z without a Z motor in it. But that's just my opinion

lol, I just think a nissan motor. There is not one of us in here that has not thought about a RB swap till we looked at what it would cost.

like 4k. they make full mounts and drive shaft and IC setup for it prefabbed and down pipe, but that whole setup is about 2k of **** i think, plus the motor and tranny and harness is another 2k. so its probably more around 5k totalle since i underestimated the the otherstuff a little

I LOVE the way a L-type sounds. To me there is nothing that tops the sound of a L-type at 5000rpm.

Also, if you change the displacement it wouldn't technically be a 280 would it?

A Z will always be a Z no matter what engine is in it. I see no difference in swapping a l28et or a sbc into a 240z.

I hear people say that if you use nitrous, it's cheating. I don't agree, it doesn't matter if you add N20, a supercharger, turbo swap, V8, RB, even a rocket or jet engine. All that matters is speed and quickness.

But, to me it's not the same if it has an American motor in a Japanese car. If I was on hybrid saying this, I'd definitely get ROASTED!!

Say that you have a Z and you're drag racing a guy in a Camaro. You have the exact same engine as him and you win. Well, it took his engine in your car to be able to beat his car. To me it is not quite the same as if you're able to beat him using the same engine that came in your car.

I guess the best year for an S30 was '81-83 since that is when the L28ET was made.
