newbie

ok so, my name is chris i just bought myself a 81 280 2+2 turbo from a friend of mine for 200 bucks. i'm new to the datsun/nissan world. I own a 02 wrx turbo and i work for BMW as a tech so i know my way around a car. I saw this car sitting in a field and i just had to have it. now here comes the fun part, it needs some things of course, i need some t-top seals, i'm trying to find an aluminum rad and i was wondering if anyone knows exactly whats involed in doing a manual swap and where i can get a tranny from. i imagine it can't be real hard with a car that old but u never know. if anybody can help me out it would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Hello hi and welcome to Zdriver ^.^

*HUGZ*

If you don't mind me asking, where are you located at? I have 3 5spds lying around from post 1891 280zx's, 2 of which i know are pretty solid. Other than that, I hope this site provides you with any normal or crazy ideas you might have with your newfound treasure ^.^

Yes yes... welcome to ZDriver! First... get rid of that silly Subie and getchoself a BMW! You work there... use the hook ups!

Second... welcome to owning a leaky t-top z! Check out www.thezstore.com www.blackdragonauto.com and www.courtesyparts.com for all your parts needs.

Third... we have quite a few "Auto to Manual Swap" threads. Just use the search and you shall find.

second all that ^^^^

and for an aluminium radiator go to arizonazcar.com they got an awesome one

and also the swap is really easy, get your self the brake/clutch pedal assembly (its in a cradle actually) a master a slave and the hard line then the flywheel clutch tranny throw out bearing pressure plate and it will take about 3 hours to install, plus another hour to install the new tranny, but time that stuff by two to take out the old stuff. the hardest part is removing the dashboard to get teh new brake/clutch pedal assembly up. youll also probably need a driveshaft.

well thanks for the suport, i live in the north florida area. i just got my car delivered to me. i bought it under false pretense. i was told that it was just started and ran and when i went to go look at it, it didn't have a battery in it, i got it from a friend of a friend so i thought i could trust him, not so much. hooked a battery and charge up to it, engine spins but no fire. pulled the ign coil wire off and held it to a ground with the engine spinning, no sparky. so first off i need a coil for it. a little more rust on it than i origanally saw but nothing real bad and i need a dash as well. it's definatly going to be a project car.

Well that wasn't very nice of them. I hope you get it running, even though it is a 2+2 ^.^, oh and some pics would be awesome if you have any.
