Red face New Member - 1982 Datsun 280zx!

Hey everyone, I'm new here (although I've been lurking for a while as an unregistered user) and, after searching and saving up, yesterday I became the new owner of a 1982 280zx! Well..temporary owner. As much as I love these cars and want one of my own, for the moment my budget only permits me to buy and fix one, so this one is actually going to be a surprise birthday gift for my boyfriend! He loves these as well, but his job keeps him so busy that he just doesn't have the time to even look for one, much less buy it and fix it.

I plan on fixing it up (it was parked in 2007 because of issues with the camshaft, and has remained there ever since. It seems that it WAS running when parked, just not running well). I'm going to be replacing any belts/hoses/etc that have likely fallen victim to dry-rot, dropping the gas tank and cleaning it out, since I am sure that it wasn't drained of it's fuel before being 'retired', along with everything else I will need to do to get this bad boy running again. I'll also be checking the cam to see just how bad it is, although it is likely worn and will need to be replaced. I also plan on replacing other little bits here and there as needed. Thankfully I also have access to a second 280zx that a friend's mom owns and is parting out which I can use to harvest all sorts parts for this one.

It's got a bit of surface rust but it's a California car and doesn't have any nasty cancer anywhere. The interior is pretty clean from what I saw (it's currently being used as a storage by the owner, so I will get better photos once he's cleaned all his stuff out). Typical dash cracks, but nothing overly molested.

I'm armed with the FSM (conveniently loaded into my iPad), several other books pertaining to both general and Datsun-specific restoration, a plethora of tools, and more giddiness than a school girl in a candy shop!

Here are a few quick phone pics of the car. I will take better photos once I tow it out of there and wash it.
