Need help Passing smog

Recently Acquired a 1983 280zx and it had been sitting for a while. I took it to get smog checked and it was pretty bad. I got a new catalytic converter, and even had somebody repair the EGR system, and now only the NO level is just a little too high. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

NEW O2 Sensor, spark plugs, clean throttle body, maybe a new muffler??? or you could have broken or disconnected vacuum lines??

How long is "a while" ? Does it still have old gas in it?

That is the newest one.

Quite honestly i'm not sure how long it was sitting for. I put a little gas in it, but there is probably some of the older gas in the tank.
As far as the EGR system, the mechanic told me it was not working, and that he had repaired the system.

  1. Get rid of the old gas.
  2. Check timing.
  3. Check / read / replace spark plugs (NGK's only!).
  4. Check / replace spark plug wires, cap, rotor.
  5. Check / change oil.

All the stuff you SHOULD do before taking a newly acquired car to emissions.

Thanks for the advice, I filled it up with gas, drove for about 20 mins at highway speed and then it passed.

+1 on the NGKs. It's funny that after 40 years of people messing around with spark plugs for the L24/26/28 and the best plugs you can get are the one's Nissan said to use from day one
