can any one tell me what that thing all the way to the right of the hood latch is? you know it is on the same dash plate as the hood handle.

 

On my '82 that under dash plate has a small hole inset into the plastic as though there is supposed to be a switch there or something. I see nothing that it is used for. I assume that is what you are talking about. I wouldn't call that a flap...

What year/model of car do you have? What options are on it... A/C or turbo?

Or if that's not what you are talking about, please describe it better.

 

that hole that you are talking about is what i mean, ive owned 6 280zx's and they all have been non turbo. and they all have had this switch and to date i still dont know what it is for.

 

that switch is for your AC/fan... the AC unit works on vacuume and when your driving and you step on the gas while yoru AC is on,,, the vent for your AC can shut off... the switch keeps the vent from shutting off when the vacuume pressure changes...

when you pull it.. it locks the pressure... i only use it when im driving on the freeway and i have my AC on... if you notice when you have it on the off posistion that everytime you gas it.. the AC vets turn off or the air coming out drops.. but when you have it on the lock posistion it keeps it steady... lol for a long time i didnt know what that thing did either... it wasnt till about 4 ears ago that i found out what that thing did...

 

Oh, so you guys actually have the switch there! I have A/C, but it looks like the whole switch is gone from my car. I've never noticed it in any other 280ZX. I'll be sure to look for them at the next Datsun show.
