I might replace my ignition control module on my '83 NA 280ZX. Car always starts up cold with no problems but sometimes just dies when it idles at a stop light. A mechanic told me that the ignition control module is bad.

These are the only brands I have found (all with a one-year warranty):
Forecast $70
Rareelectrical (they say its made by World Power Systems) for $90
MasterPro by O'Reilly for $$55

Or Beck Arnley for $100 but no warranty

What do you guys think? Thanks

 

Does it start right back up?
Have you checked for vacuum leaks?
Have you done a tune up somewhat recently?
Have you checked the timing? Fuel pressure? Sensor connections?

Car starts right up when it is cold. The problem remained after a tuneup. The mechanic could never seemed to get the timing right and he told me to just live with his best job. My fuel pump is very noisy and was leaking at one point but after I replaced the gas cap, the fuel pump actually stopped leaking. I'm not sure about sensor connections.
