I passed the smog nazis again!
I stayed up yesterday until the smog station opened up. And took my Z in, because I was running with August tags. (my '82 T-top, Bluestreak) Anyway I went in on the 13th and failed. Decided to try and dial him in, and go again.
All I can say is.. Shady280 is the man right now. I unplugged #5, and put it on, like it was plugged in. By using electrical tape so the contacts wouldn't touch. Plugged things back in, that I normally leave unplugged. Like.... TPS, a couple vaccum lines, that go to some black round thing towards the front of the engine bay. I didn't want to retard the timing, because it is already close to being as far as it will go. Then I also raised the idle as far as it would go. It was just below 1000 rpm. Anyway I went in with my Z running like crap. But I couldn't smell any richness or barely any burnt fuel. Just a little oil smell from my bad rings. And here are the results....
Previous readings..
Hydrocarbons...3.76 standard 3.00 Fail
Carbon Monoxide...27.09 standard 25.00 Fail
Oxides of Nitrogen...2.59 standard 3.50 Pass
2nd readings..
Hydrocarbons...1.00 standard 3.00 Pass
Carbon Monoxide...11.48 standard 25.00 Pass
Oxides of Nitrogen...2.45 standard 3.50 Pass
Also the test duration on the dyno was only 28 seconds. He barely got my car into 3rd gear, and their computer shut off. I was already thinking I might have finally got him through. Anyway the other guy in their asked me... Did you do all the work yourself? And I said yes, I know these cars pretty well. And to say the least he was impressed. I put on the back of my failure paper, all the things I did and bought for my Z. Which was close to $400, which I put on the paper.
So now after all this, I can clean up my yard some. And start working on my '82 slicktop. After I take a little break from working on cars. I need to make my place a little better. And have some pride in it more. And I have one less thing to worry about. Which is a huge relief for me.
Allright that is all, and feel free to comment, or if you have any questions. I will be happy to assist you. This is the main reason I haven't posted in over a month. And I have had quite a few things going on in my life. I'm back, and have more things to tell you all.

YEAHHHHH TANK you ALLL for helping readjust the car with the smog issues!!! I PASSED!!!! Carbon dioxide measures were way down, I flow tested and replaced injectors, replaced o2 sensor, vacuum hoses, windshield washer fluid reservoir, checked timing and other minor stuff but i'm now a proud LEGAL owner of my root beer buddy!!! YES~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
W@@@@@@TT thank you all so much!

If that's all it takes to bring your HC and CO down, then I'll be doing mine on Monday.
I just had a pre-test and here are my results:
15mph 1660rpm
%CO2 Measured=13.9% (PASS)
%O2 Measured=1.2% (PASS)
HC PPM=Max=135 < Measured=138 (FAIL)
CO2=Max=0.97% > Measured=0.83% (PASS)
NOx=Max=1125 > Measured=919 (PASS)
25mph 1662rpm
%CO2 Measured=14.2% (PASS)
%O2 Measured=0.9% (PASS)
HC PPM=Max=108 < Measured=106 (PASS)
CO2=Max=0.77% > Measured=0.56% (PASS)
NOx=Max=955 > Measured=524 (PASS)
Any other help would gereatly appreciated.

well definitely check your O2 sensor, if it's rusty or black or anything i recommend replacing it, and when i bought mine they gave me the option of buying the one without the wire for like 15 bucks and the one with the wire for like 30 or something. Do yourself a favor and buy a couple wire clamps at radioshack and wire the thing yourself, i wish i had done that and saved a few bucks.
Um, also check and adjust your timing and idle speed before-hand i'm sure there's a bunch of forums along that line and it's easy as cake. Good luck on your retest, sometimes all you need is that second chance and you'll get lucky.

If everything else is properly tuned, your O2 sensor is functioning and your cat is unblocked and working correctly, with your HC's and CO's that high, you can bring them both down by opening up your AFM's air bypass valve. This is definitely a last resort once you've done all the other checks and ensured everything else is working properly, as it results in you modifying your fuel map by slightly increasing the amount of un-metered air in your fuel mix.
I'll do a write-up later, but get started on all the other checks and make sure your tuning is correct first.
