Brown Bomber
Hey all, my names Dru. I had hoped to create a build thread about my silver '83 280zx but about 6 weeks ago my mother-in-law backed into it and crushed the door frame. I was able to find a replacement '79 shell for $400 nearby and here we are...
The day I got the '79
Here we are at home next to my '83
So the goal here is to swap over my 83 L28, since the 79 engine is seized. I also will be swapping over the 5spd (4spd m/t in the 79) and the driveshaft/R200 diff from the 83 as well as the power rack and pinion steering and the rear brakes.
Getting started swapping front end **** over..
Making the silver car ugly-er..

Got my kouki lights on
switching over suspention
And there it is, for now. For some reason after putting my KYB struts and cut springs on the the 79 the rear end sits 3/4" higher than it did on the silver car with the same crap. I'm thinkin of trying ebay sleeves in the back until I get full coilovers next summer.

Also started the dash swap, super simple but I didn't feel like tearing all the guts out to use the 120mph speedo and manual climate controls. No point since all the climate control stuff from the A/C system to the heater and vacuum lines and anything else not required to make the car move right will be tossed.

I'm not sure, the 79 is a 4spd with an r180, has all the options. The 83 has the same options plus t-tops, 5spd with an r200. I didn't even know the 79 less than 5 gears til I put on that stupid shift boot hehe

Pretty heavy, I'm not gonna lie. It became apparent that I needed to get my brakes done and maybe add SS lines to be safe. Performance wasn't hampered much, cornering improved, still getting 28mpg with the diamonds on. The engine has 296k miles, stock, never rebuilt and rarely serviced hehe.

Ah no way you have a crown royal boot! Haha I am literally about to get one. It'll match my bubble shift **** nice! Welcome! Im planning on DR wheels as well, or relipping something else to work. TSURIKAWA is nice as well! Wheres you end up getting it?

I got it on eBay for 9 bucks. In the pic its resting on the exhaust pipe but when I swap engines I'll make a cutout for my 83 exhaust and tsurikawas will be able to dangle solo. Should be a lot lower by then too so I'll probably loose the plastic ring on the road pretty fast hehe
