83 280zx lock cylinder

long story, my lock cylinder (to start the car) froze, and i ordered a new lock cylinder, but i cannot for the life of me find anything in the shop manual about how to take the lock cylinder out of the igition switch. can anyone help?

As far as I know, you can't just swap tumblers... you replace the whole steering lock unit. They use sheer bolts as a theft deterrent. Grab a Dremel with a thin metal cutting disc and slice a groove in the rounded bolt heads, and back it out with a flat head screw driver.

Thanks NismoPick, I bought just the cylinder from Rock Auto, and I should have known. I got it today and I don't see any way to get the old one out.

You have to take off the cover(the chrome cap with the littering) and you will see everything there,there is two tiny taps that holds the cap on the body of the ignition,pry it out...good luck.

And all this time, I did it the hard way. I used a thin pair of needle nose pliers, and slowly turned the bolts out. lol
