Ignition Cylinder Lock stuck
My key, which works in all the other locks in the Z31(1985 2+0 non-turbo), will not work on the ignition lock. The steering wheel is locked and when I try to turn the key, it does not turn.
I have tried WD-30 spray in the lock, hitting the key with the end of the rubber end of a screwdriver 10 times, moving the steering wheel and trying it, picking inside the lock with dental instrument. Nothing works!
My mechanic friend says I have to replace the Ignition lock.
any suggestions?

i have 3 keys for the z31, two of them work all locks including the ignition while the other key only works the outside locks. Has your key ever worked in the ignition lock? any damage to the key? is the key loose or tight in the ignition.

Key problem
Yes the key worked in all the locks including ignition.
It failed and is not working on the ignition switch.
I looked at the key and a locksmith also and concluded that the key is ok.
The locksmith says the ignition cyinder lock has to be removed and checked.
The key when you insert it is pretty tight. I am in the process of using a pick to push the tumblers, but so far it has not worked.
Also the locksmith tried the WD-40 spray (which is the first thing I tried). He also used some lock pick with no success.
ouch!

Are you sure your ignition switch is not sticking? I don't know how different they are from a 280zx. But I had that problem before. And thought it was the ignition. Then turned out to be the switch on the back of it.
