'81 280ZXT Exhaust Leak
I have been noticing an exhaust smell in the cabin of my car lately. I completely plugged the tailpipe to try to kill the engine, but was unsuccessful in doing so and unable to locate the leak. Is there a weak point in the exhaust system on these vehicles that I should be looking for (exhaust manifold gasket, etc)?

Where there's rust... or a hole. Is the exhaust rusted bad? Like at the flanges? Maybe the pipe has been scraped? Maybe a gasket has burnt through?
A quick stop at an exhaust shop will yield the answer... and if they are nice the probably won't charge to diagnose (just make sure you show up in dirty work (mechanic) clothes and they'll treat you good).

Run some atf in your vacuum line, and watch and see where smoke is coming out. The weak point for exhaust leaks in my experience is the manifold near the 1 and 6 cylinders, and the downpipe to turbo outlet. Is your L28et missing the exhaust studs for either the #1 or 6?
