exhaust leak

i was driving my 83 280zx n/a today, and suddenly, the exhaust sound got a lot louder. like open pipe loud. annoyingly loud.

so when i got home, i put it up on stands and looked underneath it. muffler's there, cat's there, but following the exhaust pipe up towards the engine, i found a leak. well, more like the pipe's busted. please see pics:

thanks guys!

well. the cheap way would just replace that section of pipe. If you can get it off with out busting a bolt on the manifold. That section just runs from manifold to cat, and unbolts on both sides. For lots, perfect time for a new header.

i want to put in headers and exhaust, but i don't have the time or money to do it right now, especially with the holidays : (

that being said, i don't feel like spending the money to do anything to it since i'll be repiping anyways. is there a way to somehow do a temporary fix?

i was talking to one of my friends about this and he said to wrap it with aluminum foil and duct tape it for now... that sounds kinda sketchy...

I would just weld it myself. They do make a clamp you can put on. tho it was made to cover holes. not hold pipes

I think that's a bit more than just an exhaust leak XD

If you can get the heat shield off I would just take it to an exhaust shop to have it welded, shouldn't cost more than $20

well, my buddy convinced me to try his idea...

it worked! i didn't think that the duct tape would hold. the car sounded great and exhaust was going through the pipes like it was supposed to.

then the car got warm and the duct tape melted. the aluminum busted open and yeah... the pipes still busted but now i have melted duct tape all over my pipe : P

take it to the exhaust shop, have them weld in a piece of pipe where you tried to put that tin foil

or go to the JY, get a replacement piece and do it yourself
