280ZX Non-Turbo Alternate Types of Intake Setups

Hey Guys new to the forum. Also new to Datsuns. Can anyone shed some light on different setups due to the EFI?

For example:

Has anyone got rid of the stock EFI and threw on a 4 barrel carb intake manifold and a holley carb? I would like to try this but want to know if its a solid setup. I'm open to other suggestions.

Can I get some info on some setups that are in place and are known good setups.

What i'm going for is just a solid TUNED daily driver. I'm looking for a simple setup that I wont need to keep fiddling with as if i went with triple side drafts and have to keep tuning them.

Thanks in advance!

Not sure what you're talking about having to tune triples all the time. I have triple Mikuni 44 PPHs on my 240Z and they are rock solid and I never have to adjust them.

Holly setup on the L28 is meh. Not sure I know anyone who is in love with that setup and it's generally not recomended.

If you want to tune it I recomend getting a turbo dizzy and matching oil pump shaft and at least a Mega Squirt 2 (MS3 has a lot more flexibility but if you're on a budget and not interested in growing to distributorless, etc then MS2 will work). Way cheaper than a set of triple Mikuni's or Webbers (around $1500) but not nearly as sexy.... This is my 240Z triple setup that has been eating all my time. Almost done!

Thanks for the input guys! Im gnna read up.

For triples I was referring to webers. I run mikunis on my 76 celica Liftback and have no problems. But I just sold 2 of my 3 sets. Mikunis are harder to come by down here.

That's an awesome looking setup though nis! But this is going to be my daily. And I don't have a lot of money to really build her. I was going with the single holley cause there's a new manifold for $150 and the Carb is not bad. I do love the sounds but im still recovering. From mother project which took me way over on money I didn't have

I just sold another car I have and am not working right now so I only have that money to live on and partial put in the car. But once I get working again I might tear this car apart and rebuild.

I was looking for maybe the top 5 common setups lol and trying to choose the most affordable but good setup to get me around. Thanks!!!

IMHO if you can't afford to do it right wait until you can. That way you're not spending your money twice.

Thanks will keep that in mind. Well one thing I forgot to mention is due to the weather and humidity we experience down here in Hawaii carbs go out of sync and tuning is needed. If I was in cali I wouldn't have that kind of problem. But tropical weather is horrible down here. All my engine components in my other car are getting rusted super fast due to the salt air from the ocean. All my linkages as well just from sitting in the garage. Its crazy. That's kinda why I mentioned tuning in the beginning.

I find that the factory stuff works just fine if kept in good clean condition. I drove my cat daily for 10 years without a single issue. Just tune ups and oil changes. Megasquirt is nice and I have a setup I'm working on for it.

If I go with the 4 bbl holley setup. Which Carb is recommended? Im seeing 390, but thought 600 range was the one you're supposed to use?

It's some left over paint from when the original owner painted the car - 2007 Subaru Newport Blue.
