Why not use exahust bolts instead of studs and nuts

Hi Everybody... I was just checking out Shady280's how to do your intake exhaust gasket. I need to replace my gasket and I'd like to do it soon. So...
I was thinking why not do bolts? I know nuts strip and that would be a nightmare. I know some nuts seize, also a nightmare.

The studs look tricky to take out. BTW are the studs reverse thread or regular?

Has anyone ever tried this? Any downsides to doing all bolts instead of studs and nuts?

Anyways... I look forward to everyone's thoughts on the matter.

Dave

Because studs have better clamping force than bolts. The same reason head studs are better than head bolts. If you've had nuts strip, it's because they were either cheap grade (Home Depot style) or over-torqued. You should use a high grade stud for the exhaust manifold studs as they are repeatedly subjected to heat cycles. Napa and/or your local fastener warehouse will have them.

Also, the studs make it much easier to install the exhaust manifold since you can hang the manifold on the studs.

Not tricky at all. Lock two nuts together at the end of the stud, then use a wrench on the inside nut to back out the stud (just like a bolt head).

second what nismopick said. thanks for reading my how to!! the other important part is to use those factory thick washers to spread the load out between the manifolds. regular washers just dont do the trick

^ I got that same exact kit for my '82 slicktop, when I did the cylinder head. You can't beat the factory set.
