Transmission Advice/Opinions

I drive a 79 S130 and until recently all of the mechanics were fine, but as of today I've been having issues going from first to second. In neutral I can get into second without trouble, but around half of the time when I go up from first it's as if I hit something right at the top of second. It gives a solid amount of resistance and makes a thud, but never requires more than an extra push to get engaged. There isn't any grinding, and it runs fine otherwise.

I don't know a great amount about transmissions, but if there're any other questions I could answer that would help with a diagnosis chances are I'd be able to figure them out

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest starting w/ a fluid change & bleeding of the clutch master / slave.

my car does that. and when i get to 7000 rpm it wont go in or out at all no matter what. its just the syncros in the tranny going out. 1st to 2nd is the most abused gears. providing thats the only gear doing that, then the clutch system is fine, if all the gears do that, then look towards the clutch system. unfortunatly its expensive to fix. some 79 trannys are a closer ratio, with lower gears, so its good for acceleration. if you want better mileage and mind slightly slower accel, get an 81.5 + year tranny

Thanks

I was planning on doing an oil change this Sunday; while it's up I'll change the tranny fluid and see if that gets anything done. If not I'll look towards the clutch, but it's definitely good to hear that that's probably not the issue... opening those things up always seems like a bother

The tiny bit of acceleration in the 79s first gear wont help much when it falls right out of the power range going from 2 to 3. A major flaw for 75-79 5 speeds.
