well if your 280z is and N/a/ first things firsti would upgrade the exhaust headers ...www.motorsportauto.com next thing riseing rate fuel pressure regulator... cold air intake... NGK spark plugs only the best ! got spark ? lol umm high out put ign. wires 8mm .. or more 9.5 ? umm u can advance your timing on your distrubtor cap by turning clock wize.. runing a colder theromsate like 165 or lower.. ( COOLER ENGINE MEENS BETTER PERFORMENCE ) there is alot more.. i know there is i cant think right now

Actually, a rising rate fuel pressure reg works best on a turbocharged setup (hence the name RISING RATE). And a hotter burning engine will deliver more performance since it burns fuel more efficiently. It's the AIR TEMP that should be cooler (intercooler for turbos, cold air intake for all). I don't think there is a 165 degree thermostat for the Z... just 160 / 170 / 180 / 190.

Well the reason the fuel burns more eficient, is that the flash point of gass, the hotter it gets the better it attomizes, turning it into a more gas like state so it can be burned.

160...180... whatever. It ain't gonna affect performance. Only thing it's gonna do is dictate when the damn thermostat opens. The car is going to reach the same damn temperature anyways if the system is working right. In hotter areas like haides where s/c lives it's beneficial to have a lower temp therm. since the ambiant temps are so high. But he doesn't count since he's got an aluminum radiator. Headers and exhaust IS an excellent place to start and neither are too expensive. Get a new O2 sensor while you're at it. It can do wonders for you performance if your current one is bad. Plus it'll save you the hassle of having to pull the old one to put in your NEW headers While you're replacing the plugs and wires, why not just go for a whole tune up. Cap, rotor, coil, air filter, fuel filter. Replace all your vaccum lines and hoses. Eliminate as much possibility for headaches as you can so you can enjoy your performance upgrades. If you don't have a 3.900 final drive, then use some of that money for that. It's a nice improvement over the higher ratios and will make more difference than most mods done to an NA engine. Oh and try 81 blacks little valve adjustment trick. I haven't tried it yet, (car still needs gas) but he swears by it and as soon as I get some gas in my car I'm gonna try it.

And remember, power is fun. But fast is funner. Think about putting some of that into your suspension too. You'll be happy you did when you can take onramp loops at ungodly speeds

Atomization and heat have no direct correlation when relating to gaseous versus liquid states of a given substance...

Don't raise the fuel pressure. There's plenty of fuel in the stock setup.
Get a 4.11 R200 rear, headers, 2.25" exhaust, stage 1 or 2 cam, port the intak manifold to match a 60mm throttle body, swap to a larger turbo ZX AFM. (modify the AFM properly)

If you want to get inside the engine, you can raise compression a little, port the head, and put on a bigger cam. Then maybe you might need more fuel at the top end.
