2+2 Rear End Question

I had to replace the rear brakes on my '83 2+2 over the weekend. While I had the car on stands I was remembering a prior post regarding lsd's and spinning one wheel to see which dir the other turned. Turns out that when I spin either wheel the other doesn't do anything. Is this an indication that the rear diff is toast?

nope... means it's fine, since the stock 280zx diff is an OPEN DIFFERENTIAL. Usually the other tire spins the other way, but if there is any drag, then it won't spin at all.

BTW... about the only way to "TOAST" a 280zx diff, is to have 250+ whp & be doin a ton of hard launches... and even then, you'll break the spider gears, AND YOU WILL KNOW YOU BROKE THEM.

If you had a toasted diff then you wouldn't need to change your brakes You'd wanna make sure the towtrucks got good brakes though

I'm still running the original R200 diff in my Turbo and it's holding up fine.

You'll break a lot of other stuff before you start to give these trouble. Tranny, axels, u-joints, etc.

Then, you can go up to an R230 which is a beefier R&P than a Ford 9".

oh really! Is the R230 just a bolt-in swap like everything else?

If you need something that strong then it's probably worth the effort to make it fit That be a whole lotta Torque A 9" will take a whole bunch of abuse. Trust me, I know first hand
