I have a 82 280 zx yes the cartoonish looking blacksheep of the z family.the engine needs replaced it is a 5 speed non turbo.any suggestions for a guy with a tight income

Since you aren't looking for power mods, this is a very simple one.

Replace the engine, or pay to have someone rebuild it. Trying to do a non L28 swap will cost you more than replacing it with a running motor, or paying someone to rebuild it to get those miles back to zero, which is what you'll (eventually) have to do if you buy a used one with miles, and you'll end up with two engines that don't run (see: my garage)

Whats going on with your motor, maybe you wont have to bust your banks ***** to get your sheep running again.

Whodaf... could you expound upon your current engine problems? And "tight income" doesn't mean much... how about an actual dollar figure of what you can spend?
