MAF placement

I'm installing an intercooler, so I have to pipe my air filter and MAF differently. My filter will be under head light bucket and intake pipes going through inner fender to turbo. I have 2 options.

1. Should I place the MAF directly on filter then pipes through inner fender to turbo. This will place MAF under head light bucket along with the filter.

2. Should I run filter then a 45 coupler through inner fender then to MAF then pipe to turbo.

Now why I ask this is because this means the MAF is either right on the air filter or after a 45. Both of which I have heard is not good.

Does your IC have some funky in & out? Pics of your IC?

Just wondering why you are going through the wheel well rather than radiator support...

I'll have to post some pics when I get it in. Its just a vertical IC with inlet and outlet on the same side so that means that two 2.5 inch pipes have to go through the same side of the radiator support no room to have another 3 inch pipe for the filter. I could run the filter after the radiator in the engine compartment but that isn't very efficient. So best option is to run the filter out through the inner fender.

You want a straight shot for the MAF - turbulant air will cause you problems especially at idle. Of the two poor options right after the filter is best.

That's how I ran it. It turned out really good. But if I can make room, whats the minimum length of pipe that should be between filter and MAF?

Just a note for other guys doing custom intakes don't put air filter directly on the MAF. Runs like crap and very jumpy at cruising speed.

As I said turbulent air will cause problems with your MAF. If you attach the air filter to the MAF you may not have enough of a run to smooth the air out. You need a section of pipe - preferably straight - before the MAF to make sure the air is metered properly.
