83 head question

Hey kinda new to the z car. exhaust manifold was leaking do to a broken bolt on far back upper on the exhaust manifold ha i broke the easy out in the bolt grrrrrr. so im drilling out the bolt and putting a heli coil. any water jackets i should look out for when drilling? also port matching the intake manifold and head but question i saw these liners in the exhaust ports and my question is what are they there for? can u take them out? should i take them out? im thinking leave them alone , they are there for a reason im guessing. Also the idle screw in the intake manifold is pretty much bottomed out. but the car idles fine wondering why this is? should i be looking for vaccuum leaks. sorry lots of questions
