Ac Leaking Freon?

I just got my new 83 280ZXT and charged the AC about a week ago. Now the AC still blows but the air is HOT! In Texas that is definitly not a good thing. Anyone have any ideas what this could be and how much it will cost me?

THANKS!

did it work BEFORE charging it? Was R12 used? Does the a/c compressor engage when u turn on the a/c?

If it's R12 are you so lucky as to have a stash so that you did it yourself? If so, and the system was in need of a charge, then there is a very good chance that the system is contaminated with moisture. Also, too much or too little refrigerant can cause a warm condition. If the compressor is coming on then it's gotta be internal. Check to make sure the condensor isn't restricted at all. The reciever should also be replaced if there is a chance that it was exposed to atmosphere (like someone venting it or a leak). Finally, the restrictor orifice may be restricted to the point where enough refrigerant isn't allowed to pass and is backing up the flow which will raise the pressure and prevent the system from cooling. But your best bet is to just take it in and have it serviced. Have em pull a vaccum on it and see if it's leaking. This will also get out any moisture. If it was leaking make sure they replace the reciever. R12 is expensive though.

Just use the stuff called "freeze 12" It is a replacement for the original r-12. I put it into my Celica which had r-12 originally, and it worked fine, until my damn compressor froze up! And I didn't want to know, how much another one cost. So I will wait until next summer. And hopefully replace it.

Where the hell do you find all this stuff lww. You're a freakin' machine. Put a quarter in and a link pops out. It's great. Especially since we don't even have to put the quarter in . 12 cans of the stuff for $60, that's a hell of a lot cheaper than R12. Maybe I'll put my AC back on after all. Then again, maybe not.

I believe the heater core/ A/C plenum is vacuum controlled on that model. Check to see if the doors are opening and closing. If they aren't the hot air is from your heater core and will defeat the A/C
