1983 280zx NA Fuel Pump Leak

Greetings group, new member and first time question poster. I have been reading these threads for weeks and have not come across the answers I am looking for. The reason of this new post. Sorry if I missed it on earlier posts.

When car starts, begins to leak fuel almost immediately from the fuel pump. Some kind of gasket. Car runs fine, pump seems to work but of course I won't drive it like this. The questions are: Is this common with these fuel pumps (looks like the original, car has 200k+)? Is there a way to just fix the leak and use the same pump? Also, to replace with OEM it's like $230. But when you google fuel pumps for 1983 280zx many come up that are like $50-60. These do not look like direct replacements. Though they seem to meet the correct specifications but size-wise look different. I don't want to do an in pump replacement. Anyone every have this issue? Anyone used these after market fuel pumps? Any issues with placement (modifications etc). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome to ZDriver!

Are you 100% sure it's the fuel pump? It's more likely the failed hose or clamp attached to the fuel pump. Check them.

If it really is leaking from the body of the pump, I suggest buying a Bosch or Walbro fuel pump from a reputable source. The Autozone house brand fuel pumps are very (VERY VERY VERY!!!) prone to failure.

Thank you Nismo, that was my first thought. Though everything seems very dry. It just starts leaking from where the clamp attachment/locking nut is on the pump. Maybe there is a hose I can't see or feel in the back. I can't imagine it leaking straight through the pump. It would have to be a hose. And the car runs great, so I know it works.
Tried to load a pic but no luck, I need to figure out how to put a URL to a photo.

Thank you for your help. I hope to pull it off this weekend. Anything else I should look for while under there?
