Original Price/ Equipment
Ok, so I am trying to get as much info as possible before seeing an 82-83 zx turbo 2+2. I cant seem to find what these things went for originally and what kind of equipment was standard and what was optional. From what I have gathered power windows and steering were standard, but thats about it. Anybody have any idea on tranny, A/C, seats (power and fabric) dash, mirrors, cruise control, T-tops, etc. Thanks for the help.
it just depends on what model it is, if its a gl, grand luxury, it usually has, power mirrors, rear defrost mirror defrost, a/c, headlight washers, t-tops were in later models, cruise control, power steering was standard in turbo models, maneul rack, or recipracating ball for the older and rest. Trannys were either i do believe man. were standard, seats weren't power at least mine weren't, and i do believe their vinyl. Mine is an 83'
there are many unknown options these cars had. like some had leather, think in 83. the gl's are easy to pick out because there was a rear wiper. unless the hatch has been swapped out, that and the car had the switch for it. up until 81, you could get recirulating ball steering in power and non power. after that is was rack and pinion. all cars after 81 seemed to come with t-tops. they are very special in the slick top version. power windows came in the gl model. power mirrors with mirror heat was a special option as well.the turbos models in 81 had auto trannys only, put it this way, they suck. hope that helps, cant remeber anything else. but in 1979 the average z sold for 18,000 canadian dollars.
Hope I can help...
I am the original owner of a 1983 280zx 2+2 NA with every option. And they came basically loaded... the only options were the 2+2 option - $900, Automatic transmission - $350, T-tops - $800, And the leather/digital package - $1000 which included the leather seats, digital dash, bronze colored windshield, i think an upgraded 80 watt stereo with wide stereo dial also was part of the package as well as the defroster on the outside mirrors.... I believe the turbo had the same choice of options but had the headlight washer as part of one of the option packages....
so anyway what is the diff what it cost new. These cars didn't hold that much value. Buy it for what you can get it for. Unless she in primo ultra primo shape not worth more than $2500 max. Also depends on how much you want the beast.
'79 model year was available in base trim for ~$12,500 US up to about $15,500 for fully loaded GL models.
That only increased by about $1000 through the '83 model year.
The Turbo carried ~$2000 premium over the NA when new.
Just so you're aware, the original purchase price is entirely useless when pricing a 25 year old car. They've been exposed to so much time, wear and weather that it's pointless.
For example, I picked up a running '83 turbo for $600. I also bought a running '82 NA for $1200. The turbo is a rusted hulk that I bought solely for the drive train. The NA is in good condition but has 203,000 miles and some light sheet metal damage and poor repairs.
I think rogerz is pretty close with his estimate. If it's in safe, driveable shape with little rust a decent interior and an average drive train, $2500 is a good range.
If it's low mileage with confirmed garage storage, no rust and a good interior, it could go up to $3500, but it really depends on how much you want it and how much money you have. I've seen a few of these cars sell for over $10,000, but that's clearly not the norm.
