280ZX-T Gauge Question

I hate to make this my first post since i haven't done an intro thread but i'm prepping for a dash install and need some info.
is it possible to swap the clock in the three gauge cluster with say the volt meter from a non turbo? While i have the dash out i would love to get rid of my non-working clock.

Yes it's possible. Just pull out the old clock and replace it with a new gauge!

not quite that easy they are all one unit. If you take out the glove box there is a screw (maybe two) and you can slide out the whole unit. after that you need to do some mods to the plastic and then wire up the volt gage. pics are of zxt showing the complete gage module. I don't think pimpshrimp has looked at teh unit very closely

I have never personally opened one but people replace the gauges all the time. Particularly the crappy stock boost gauges.

I've swaped gauges around. You're best to replace the stock boost gauge with a real boost gauge. I have the stock oil temp, replaced the stock boost with a volt meter that I calibrated with a power supply and DMM and replaced the digital clock with an Autometer boost gauge.

@ZXR - i didn't know that ....i'll check into that.
@fricfrac - I wasn't aware you can move them around that much..i may look at boost gauges as well...i was planning on doing a "a-pillar" mount for the boost gauge but it would be much cleaner in the dash...you wouldn't happen to have a picture would you?

I used the guts of a 280ZX clock (quartz movement) in my 240Z. It was a major pain but I had the time to do it (at the time lol).

Yea it's the only picture I could find. It doesn't actually look that bad now lol. It just to give you an idea what you can do with the stock gauge cluster with swaping stuff around. Some works some doesn't.
