what the hell is wrong with these cars

no really, what the fawk man, these cars hate water more than my fawking cat. it poord at about 5 am today and stopped at around 7 am. its now 5 pm i got to pull my car into the garage to work on the interior. the mother f!cker isnt starting. i dont even know what the hell to do anymore. why would rain cause this to happen. the windows were all shut even though the floor still some how gets we and it doesnt seem to be from the doors any where, the hood was close. no electronics were directly exposed. but the ECU doesnt turn on yet again. im starting to think if this ecu is just crappy enough to not work when there is moisture around, or if the dizzy is shitty enough to not work when there is moisture around. the ecu is mounted about 5 inches abouve the floor so its not sitting in watter and is on the side of car just infront of the door but behind the firwall, i dont see how it could be getting wet, but some how something with rain or a really moist night makes this car not run. any suggestions would be awsome.

Have you checked to see if the ecu is getting power?

trust me, its from moisture. it happens only when it rains or iff its a really really really moist night and morning. the ecu shorts, i took strip caulking and lined all teh gromets cause i noticed trails comming from them like water had been seeping in there. im going to get a car cover (should have months ago) and ive been drying everything, if **** works again after blowing everything out, i found water to be my weakness.

okey dokey.... soo i took out teh ECU blew it out, blew out teh connectors for it took apart teh dizzy, blew it out, blew out the CAS connector and yeah strip caulked all the holes in the fire wall. plugged it all back in and poof it started. but, then it did that thing after 45 seconds it died and didnt start, but this time, it was different, the ecu light was on. then it wasnt. then it was. then it wasnt, but still didnt start. then it started to what seemed like, blinking, a regulated blink, then it flickered once then it stayed lit but really dimly. now the battery was dying so that could be one reason, but i was wondering, do these ecu's do anything for throwing codes? because normaly when i turn the key to on, the led goes on, when i turn it to start, the led turns off the car runs, at least last time i checked, this time, the led just stayed on even in the start position. sooo yeah idk. im a bit confused, again....

i had the same problem the other day in my car..after washing it it ran real crappy and wouldnt start.. for some reason it was dumping fuel in the engine after pulling one of the plugs to see it drenched in fuel and once it did start after almost killing the battery it was blowin smoke like a freight train. i went to work on it after 3 days of sitting and no problems everything is great. this is the first time it happened but like you my ecm was dry so i'm not sure.. as for pulling codes... there's a dial u can turn with a screw driver on the side it should be all the way to the left..turn it to the right for 2 seconds then all the way back to the left and it should blink say 2 slow blinks followed by one fast blink which would indicate a code 21 engine fault etc... but get a manual about it its pretty kewl u can even monitor your o2's from it.

^^^ Did you by chance wash the engine bay? Your problem sounds like the classic "water in the TPS" issue. Also, there aren't any ecu codes for the 280zxt ecu (via the LED anyway). Nissan started that option w/ the Z31 ecu.

sooooo obviously E banned me since he went to canada. fun i guess.... lol

but i got out the voltmeter and went to town on my car, im getting power through the ignition signal, its turning on the relay, its relaying the power back to the ecu, the ecu is grounded properly, thus, the ecu should turn on, i realized the other night even with teh cas unplugged (or broken obviously) the ecu still turns on (led lights up) which now leaves me with 2 repeat 2 possibilities. number one, turns out my windshield was leaking through the bottom and into my dashboard and thus right onto where the ecu is mounted . number two! once the car was on charge (even though prior to charging it there was enough power to crank the engine at a decent yet not perfect speed) the car started right up and stayed running. so what do you all have to say to that?

Something is definitely getting wet, both of my Zs will start up and run fine in the rain, hell I was driving through an insane downpour one day with no problem.

apparently you drill out the #2 shift hole and use the datsun front (upper?) bearing and then you can slide the front bell housing off the Z tranny onto the 240sx tranny and shorten the Z drive shaft about 1.5 inches or was it 2.5? something like that and i think then it swaps in, that or you have to grab an sx flywheel/clutch assembly since the flywheels are apparently the same diameter and bolt pattern.
