what is a "3.1 stroker" engine?
im reading some ebay auction and it mentions a 3.1 stroker engine upgrade or something? What exactly is that? I found a big bore kit for my 2.8L, that makes it 3.1L... is that the same thing? My engine has (supposedly) 170k miles on it, would getting that kit be good for rebuilding the engine or no?
thanks,
nick

Nick,
In order to do the big bore 3.1 liter stroker you will have
to shell out some money. The kit in the books is around
$1500 to $1800 and that doesn't even include the machine
work to your motor . You can junk yard do it and find a diesel
Maxima crank , 240 9mm rods, and the Z24 pistons.
I have been looking at stroking my car . I have seen a few stroker Z's run and they have a ton of torque.

Yes, that is a good option for a rebuild. Here is a detailed article on how to build the strocker motor, what components are common to use and what you need to do to the head depending on what pistons you use. For a rebuild, it would be just as good to buy new pistons. Stock Pistons aren't that much.... again, you are buying larger diameter "stock" pistons from other 4-cylinder engines, not a big bore piston for a stright six.
Here are a couple great articles to read through.
