Does anyone know how well products like these work?

I'm sure it will work... but I would stick w/ the name brand stuff (like POR15) unless you can find out more about that company's reviews.

oh, I only just started searching and these were the first ones I saw. I'll definitely look for that company. Thanks

I went to that company's website and can't find rust converters, sure I want to protect my car but i have to get rid of the rust first. Any help?

only one way to get rid of rust bro... manually.... cut, sand, scrape. w/e but thats the only way you cant "convert" rust no matter what any one says... theres some sprays out there that do a decent job of converting minor surface rust, but even that isnt fool proof. it works on small spots usually on the body where say some paint chipped and it just started to rust.

Ninja, 7 years back I did a complete repaint on my '73. I striped down to a rolling shell. I had to replace the floor on the passenger side. I used POR 15 extensively on my Z.
I have nothing but good to say for the products. You need to follow the instructions that they give you , and if you do you will be pleased with the results. I scraped all loose rust and most of the surface rust from the metal then followed the instructions and used there products to prep the metal. Now this many years later zero rust or problems have arisen. I painted any and all bare metal.
I have herd of complaints that the stuff didn't work form Z drivers... Turns out they ALL took shortcuts and didn't prepare the metal as directed. Done right the finish is harder than anything I have ever seen.
NOTHING can touch it AFTER it is cured. Not good for the finish but terrific for suspension and rust coverage.
I did most of my Z inside and under with 2 qts of gloss black. Inside the doors and rockers and cavities , with a gun. I had stripped the Z to a rolling shell so I attacked it all. It is not cheep, but you get what you pay for. Gary It is true you cannot convert rust , but you can seal it from all and any moisture and stop the progression almost completely. With our cars that are several layers of metal spot welded together it is difficult to completely seal everything.

wait, so putting rust sealers like what you used will prevent the rust from spreading altogether? because the car that I'm looking at (the rusty one) is already very close to a rolling shell

Can you paint over POR 15? If not, what brand does the job nearly as well, while allowing a paint over?

Saw that. Are you sure they mean you can paint over it or that you can use it with existing paint systems?

i just checked their site, you need their special primer to paint over POR-15 paint but once it's primered it's supposed to work with any paint type

ya, I just went through that site and went through every section there and found rust stripper, metal preparing solution (to prepare for POR-15), primer, the obvious POR-15 paint, patching putty, patching fiberglass mesh and a caliper painting kit for about $275 which I think is well worth it for that kind of rust protection

POR 15 will seal the metal from the moisture but if there is metal damage that has made the structure weak , the fix is to cut out the damage and weld in new metal. Yes you can paint over POR if you do so when it is still tacky. Once it is cured then Ti- coat primer in needed. This is what I did in my engine bay after I scraped repaired what metal damage then treated all the bear metal with POR. Followed with Ti-coat. POR is vary difficult to sand, but it will flow out vary smooth even with a brush. POR is not meant for structural repair. Gary
