Hello everybody! I'm new to the forums however I am looking to get involved with a 240z as a serious project car. I have experience with Z's for a few years now (previous 300zx/350z owner) they're my favorite line of cars since childhood! After taking a look at a 240z on top of a trailer on the highway recently I absolutely fell in love! Currently I am looking to purchase the Z (I live in the South Florida area) and then after that I will start the work on it... Any type is fine as long as I can put some good work into it... Any tips and help on where to find one would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks ahead of time!

Are you asking where to find a 240z? (I ask because it sounded like you were going to buy the one you saw on the trailer).

 

Yes I am looking for help to purchase one, I just saw the one on the trailer... I believe the guy was going to a car show but unfortunately it wasn't for sale.

Also... the L31 was never a stock / factory option in a Z car. L31 is an overbored L24 / L26 / L28 block done by a machine shop. Search for "L31 Stroker".

I don't think anyone could know how many people have done a stroker into their 240z... That's kind of an impossible thing to calculate seeing as how the 240z has been around for 39 years, and the www of knowledge has been around for 15. There are quite a few who have done it though.

Fujin, When looking for a 240Z, 1st what are you going to do with the car. Track use or a Complete restoration , or a good driver to show and enjoy. First off find the most complete and rust free car you can. Rust is the main killer especially in the ''salt belt''. There are still great cars on the West coast but they are becoming harder to find.
a track car doesn't require a clean car like one for a driver.
True restorations will cost in the area of $25,000. to do depending on how much you do your self. Rust repair is the most costly to do if done correctly. I live in Portland Or. and recently there have been some 240s on Crag's list that look good for under 4K and are drivers. If you want a built engine I recommend you have it done , this way you know what you have. Gary

 

Gary thank you! That's the type of information I was looking for... I didn't explain myself too clearly with the first post, I was half asleep and I was still laughing from the "Black Crow" incident that happened a few years back... Anywho, yes, I am looking for a weekend driven car that I can "restore" maybe show it off at a few car shows... I want to remove rust (a little as possible obviously), new paint job, wheels, custom body work, engine work (maybe drop a RB or work on the L if its still in decent condition), the works! As I am now have the liquidity to basically throw money into this money pit of a project haha. Thanks again for all the info

Im selling my 71 240z but cant seem to find a buyer for it dont know why. I mean all the numbers match and everything. I guess its the floorboards need to be replaced.

We'll PM the info on it mhough326 we can work something out... definitely... the funniest thing is that I'm on a IS-F forum and this guy was talking about how he has a 73 240z (which is exactly what I'm looking to purchase) and a 82 260z (?) and that in order to buy the IS-F he's going to have to sell the 73 Z... match made in heaven!
